Delhi HC Orders Removal Of Allegedly Objectionable Social Media Content Against J&K Deputy CM

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, ordered the removal of allegedly objectionable social media content targeting Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary.

Granting interim relief in a defamation suit filed by Choudhary, Justice Amit Bansal observed that a prima facie case was made out in his favour.

The Court noted that the nature of the content required immediate consideration at the interim stage.

The videos circulated on social media allegedly show Choudhary in a purported telephonic conversation with a woman and are claimed to contain sexually suggestive elements. Choudhary has argued that the material is defamatory and has sought permanent and mandatory injunctions directing its removal.

Earlier, on December 9, the Court directed Choudhary to implead the individuals responsible for uploading the allegedly defamatory content on social media as parties to the ongoing defamation proceedings. The Court was hearing an application filed by Choudhary seeking advancement of the hearing date, which was originally fixed for January 13, 2026. Allowing the request, the Court advanced the hearing and took up the matter on December 16.

In the same matter, the Court had also directed Meta and Google to disclose information relating to the Facebook pages and YouTube channels that uploaded the videos.

Choudhary is currently serving as the ninth Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He represents the Nowshera constituency in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly as a member of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and was elected on October 8, 2024.

Prior to this, he served as a Member of the Legislative Council and was earlier associated with the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party.
