The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notice on a plea alleging violation of environmental norms during the construction of Road No. 58A, Somnath Marg, Surajmal Vihar, Delhi.

The Principal Bench of the NGT, comprising Justice Prakash Shrivastava (Chairperson) and expert member Ishwar Singh, directed,” Issue notice to the Respondents. The Applicant is directed to serve the Respondents and file an affidavit of service at least one week before the next date of hearing.”

The matter has been listed for November 3, 2025.

The plea, filed by Ashish Jain, alleges that the construction activity has caused environmental hazards, including the dumping of bitumen, debris, and other waste materials on the green belt adjoining the road. This, it is claimed, has obstructed natural groundwater recharge during the monsoon.

It is further alleged that a long stretch of the road has been laid without a bitumen carpet, resulting in dust pollution caused by vehicular movement over the broken surface.

The applicant, appearing in person, placed reliance on photographs filed along with the petition and submitted that despite complaints being made to the authorities, no remedial action has been taken so far.

Case Title: Ashish Jain Versus Public Works Department & Ors.

Date of hearing: 29.08.2025
